Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Responsibility is ingrained into the value system and is truly a way of life at AVIVA NDB Insurance. It is an important corner stone in our brand heritage and the purpose of bringing prosperity and peace of mind, not only to customers, but to all stakeholders of the company. Our Corporate Responsibility initiatives are selected for their relevance for the nation and a business focus is not a pre-requisite. Employee voluntarism is key and this focus unites our people to contribute as one family.

The Company's initiatives span a cross section of activities. AVIVA NDB evolved and sponsors the National Safety Awards that has become the coveted benchmark of a safe, accident-free workplace. The award is presented in collaboration with two state organizations, the Department of Labour and the Employees Trust Fund Board.

Communications promoting utmost care when lighting crackers have significantly helped to reduce accidents during festive times. Safety campaigns held during Poson in Anuradhapura effectively prevent accidents from drowning among pilgrims.

The Company awards the Higher Education Scholarship on merit alone, to every child who tops the batch in each district at the Year 5 government scholarship examination and then succeeds at Ordinary Level. A monthly scholarship is awarded from the time the student enters Advanced level class to the completion of the chosen university degree course. If the student does not opt to enter a university, a lump sum is given to start life. A trust fund created in 1994 with Rs. 10 million for the continuity of the higher education scholarships, has grown more than five-fold over the years.

"Street to School" is a worldwide programme of global Aviva and in Sri Lanka, AVIVA NDB employees participated in supporting the school at Ihala Hevessa, a remote hamlet in the Kalutara district, by voluntarily providing scholarships to 15 deserving students, bringing alive the concept of recognizing that all children have a right to education.
