Senior Regional Manager, AVIVA NDB Insurance, T. Sivakumaran, presented a cash gift together with a Higher Education Scholarship certificate to Nishanth Hamsikan of St Theresa Maha Vidyalaya, who was ranked first in Kilinochchi in the year 5 scholarship examination in 2010. He obtained 175 marks to top the batch. The Company presents scholarship certificates to all the students who top the batch in each of the 25 districts in Sri Lanka.
They start receiving the scholarship when they are successful at GCE O/L and enter A/L. The Principal and Teachers also received certificates of recognition from AVIVA NDB Insurance for their commendable role in motivating the student. |

| AVIVA NDB Scholarship for Excellence in Insurance Studies was launched in 2009 for students who excel in insurance studies at the Wayamba University, which is the only local university that offers a Degree in Insurance and Valuation in Sri Lanka. The student with the most outstanding academic performance in the Department of Insurance and Valuation is selected by the University to be awarded the scholarship. The student selected receives a monthly allowance of LKR 3000/- for a period of 10 months during the final year of study and a six-month career guidance training opportunity at AVIVA NDB Insurance on completion of the degree programme. |

The Company initiated the Higher Education Scholarship as far back as in 1994 and the total number of students who have qualified is now 375. The Higher Education Scholarship is unique because AVIVA NDB unconditionally recognizes academic excellence on merit alone. Students who qualify are not required to be children of AVIVA NDB policyholders.
More importantly, the Company initiated a trust fund of Rs. 10 million to ensure the continuity of the scholarship. This fund has now grown more than five-fold through prudent investment and 225 students have started receiving the scholarship.
Another unique feature of this scholarship award is the recognition of the contribution made by the teachers and principals in nurturing excellence. Certificates of appreciation have been presented to the Grade 5 class teacher and school principal of each of the students in a rare occasion where their dedication is acknowledged.

Having trained over 12,000 pre-school teachers for 13 years through Gurupubuduwa the programme is now developed to reach pre-school children. This grass-root project encourages the educational-development of pre-school children, through programmes conducted by facilitators and specially-trained employees and selected members of the agency-force.
The company held region-wide series of one-day-seminars conducted by counselors, educating parents and teachers on positively-molding young-adults. Teenagers are also addressed, separately.
A special grass-root series of free "Entrepreneurship Development Seminars" on positive-thinking, marketing and financial-planning, conducted by lecturers and volunteering senior management of the company was held island-wide throughout the year.
The company conducted regional-workshops for agents and families on financial-planning and retirement-planning. This programme also included the community within the region. |
