The company's consistent effort to enhance the well being of
the Sri Lankan community has resulted in the launch of its latest
innovative CSR-platform “Samana” towards creating
“an equally-abled-society.”
The core objective of Samana is to enhance the knowledge of teachers who work with disabled children, through a series of workshops and training modules featuring recognized resource persons in the field of special education. This will help enhance the educational-development of specially-abled children to achieve their potential, and become fulfilled-citizens of the country.
As a first step a multi-media-campaign was carried out to call-for-applications from teachers and volunteers, for the inaugural national level workshop. The response was extremely positive and over 1000 teachers, parents and volunteers from all over the island attended the company's knowledge enhancing workshop for teachers of disabled children, held at BMICH, Colombo in October 2007.
Experts in the field of Special Education were selected, to ensure that the knowledge they shared at the event added value to the participants of the workshop.
The event was implemented in collaboration with, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Service & Social Welfare, Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Empowerment. Special facilities were also made available by The Sunera Foundation.
This inaugural workshop will be followed by a series of regional workshops which will be more focused and interactive.
The company's
staff who have volunteered to support the project will be trained as volunteer-teachers. They will then be assigned to selected special-needs schools. |
